Clare Misselbrook our Artist in Residence has been working with a group of students over four Saturdays to create a pilgrim sculpture inspired by Grayson Perry's 'Our Mother' (2009). The students worked extremely hard to create clay objects that has personal meaning to them. See them making the objects here. There were a range of beautiful pieces created from headphones, a fish, doughnuts and even Wembley Stadium! These were created from clay and then later fired and glazed. So proud of what the students had achieved, Clare shared the images of the final sculpture with the Victoria Miro gallery who passed on the images to Grayson. He replied and you can read his lovely email below; Hi Clare Thanks the for the smashing photos. It pleases me more than anything that my work might encourage others to have ago at creating artwork. Your pupils look like they have had a good time making meaning, which in the end is what art is about. I love the headphones the iPhone and the games controller! It is good for young people to realise that their lives are the stuff of proper art. Keep up the good work. Best wishes Grayson Many thanks to Clare and the Saturday group for all of your hard work. You really have created something spectacular. Grayson Perry (b. 1960), Our Mother, 2009. © Grayson Perry, courtesy the

This is an excellent opportunity for Year 10 pupils to experience university life and gain a qualification. On 1st March 2014 they had the amazing opportunity to meet artist, Jeremy Deller and complete a life drawing session and flag workshops alongside him.
They particularly enjoyed listening to Jeremy Deller speak about how he became a successful artist, his travels across America and hearing his stories of completing and hanging his artwork in his bathroom! F.A would thoroughly recommend taking part in the Saturday workshops. She said "I love these classes because I get to work with many new people who say really nice things about everyone's ideas." |
