Dear Teachers, We would like to invite you and your students (any age group) to our CCW Foundation Diploma open day on Saturday 19 October. The open day will provide you with information on the course and advice on how to apply. There will also be an opportunity to speak to current students and look at their portfolios. It will be held at our Progression Centre at Wilson Road, Camberwell, London SE5 8LU. We will start registration from 1pm. Kind regards, The Open Day Team *** If you are interested in this event please speak to Mr Rainsford or Mrs Preece as soon as possible. I have been asked to put forward 6 names of students who would be interested in participating in the University of the Arts London, Saturday Drawing Programme this year. It is completely free and is held at Camberwell Progression Centre, 1 Wilson Road, London, SE5 8LU, and London College of Communication (LCC), Elephant & Castle, London, SE1 6SB. The course will run from 9:30a.m. – 12:30p.m. - with a possible day offsite until 4:00pm, TBC. On full days students will have to provide lunch. Students are expected to attend all sessions. Punctuality and attendance will be monitored and we will be informed of students who are not meeting the requirements of the course. Students will be working alongside students from other local schools. This is our fourth year of successfully running the programme. So far four cohorts have achieved the UALAB Level 2 Drawing Award, with a further two cohorts upgrading this to a UALAB Level 2 Certificate. The qualification as a whole is the same size and level as a GCSE and is accredited by QCA. The UAL Saturday Drawing Programme is affiliated with the National Art & Design Saturday Club, run by the Sorrell Foundation, in which 35 Colleges and 900 pupils from around the country take part. Your students’ work will be showcased as part of this at Somerset House in May 2014 at a high profile exhibition which students, parents and teachers will all be invited to attend. See http://thesorrellfoundation.com/saturday-club.php for more details. What they are offering
This year’s programme will run over 16-weeks on Saturday mornings at Camberwell Progression centre, and London College of Communication. The programme will be taught by UAL tutors and supported by art and design professionals and student ambassadors. It will follow the units ‘Drawing & Measurement’ and ‘Drawing Materials & Methods’. There will be an emphasis on observational drawing, life drawing, perspective, and then printmaking, photography and letterpress. The Unit specifications can be seen at: http://www.arts.ac.uk/about-ual/awarding-body/qualifications/drawing/ Students who pass the course will achieve the UALAB Level 2 Award. The course is free to attend and materials are provided. Students will leave with a body of work that has been shown in previous cohorts to support GCSE work. Amy has made a fantastic start to the 'Surfaces, Layers and Print' Project in Year 11. Have a look at some of her work and the way she has presented each page. She balances image and text beautifully. Well done Amy.
Hello all, I went to see the Paper show at the Saatchi gallery this weekend and would recommend it to students from all years. The exhibition is full of exciting but achievable artworks that will inspire all projects from Year 9 portraits, Year 11 shaman sculptures to Year 13 personal studies. My favourite piece was a huge paper sculpture that reminded me of fragile kites, seen above, made by Marcelo Jacome. I hope you can make it. Enjoy! Mrs Preece. |
